Abstract:

Generation Z learners navigate a fast-evolving world characterized by digital immersion, rapid information flow, shifting career expectations, and heightened emotional complexity. These realities demand a new competency model for life advisors who guide Gen Z in personal, academic, and career-related decision-making. This study investigates the core competencies required for life advisors and evaluates how these competencies influence advisory effectiveness among Gen Z learners. Grounded in contemporary guidance frameworks, digital-age learning theory, and socio-emotional development models, the research employs a descriptive–correlational design with 180 Gen Z respondents who rated the perceived effectiveness of life advisors across competency dimensions such as digital fluency, emotional intelligence, mentoring ability, communication adaptability, and value-based guidance. Findings reveal that Gen Z places the highest importance on advisors’ emotional intelligence and digital communication skills, followed by personalized mentoring and cultural awareness. Regression analysis indicates that emotional intelligence and digital fluency together predict 64% of the variance in perceived advisory effectiveness. The study highlights the urgent need to redesign advisor training programs with greater emphasis on emotional, technological, and relational competencies to meet Gen Z expectations and enhance developmental outcomes.
