Abstract:

Almonds of Irvingia gabonensis are commonly consumed by certain peoples in western Côte d'Ivoire, due to their affinity with the plant, and are part of their dietary and sociological habits. Aim of this study is to determine the impact of almonds consumption on haematological and biochemical parameters in organisms. Twenty (20) rats, five (5) per batch, were fed for one month (30 days). Four batches of rats were fed diets including a control batch of pellets, while the other three experimental batches were fed diets enriched with Irvingia gabonensis unlipidated almonds powder in proportions of 5%, 10% and 20% respectively. At the end of the experimental period, the results of the analysis revealed a significant increase in hematological parameters such as erythrocyte, leukocyte and thrombocyte cell lines. In addition, a significant change in lipid profile was observed, with constant blood glucose levels. However, there was a slight change in creatinemia and uremia levels. These hematological and biochemical components reveal the high quality of this food. This food induces good health in the body after consumption. This study could therefore provide information on the proper use of Irvingia gabonensis almonds. They could therefore be recommended as part of the fight against malnutrition, which is still rife in our populations, especially in Africa, where malnutrition is proving to be a real public health problem.
