Association Between Psychiatric Disorders and Iron Deficiency Anaemia in a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital

Abstract:

Iron has an important role in cognitive, behavioral, and motor development. Different types of psychiatric disorders are present in the Indian population. Bipolar disorder, unipolar disorder, schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorder are some of them. As there are only few studies in Indian literature regarding the association between iron deficiency anaemia and psychiatric disorders, the present study is undertaken. This study is designed to investigate the correlation of iron deficiency anaemia and psychiatric disorders and thus to find out the association between psychiatric disorders and iron deficiency anaemia.  Medication adherence among various psychiatric patients and influence of pharmacist intervention to improve medication adherence among psychiatric patients were also found out in this study.
