Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) is one of the spice crops grown in Ethiopia, which is predominantly used as a flavoring of the traditional bread and maintains the soft texture of “tef-injera” in cooler zones of the country. It is an important spice seed crop, widely cultivated in India, Egypt, Ethiopia, Morocco, and England. In the southern part of Oromia, the production of fenugreek is still low. Moreover, there is a need to select high-yielding and adaptable Fenugreek varieties for the study areas. Hence, this experiment was conducted to evaluate five Fenugreek varieties and select adaptable varieties with considerable yield. The field experiment was conducted in 2018, 2019, and 2020 at Bule Hora, and varieties were planted in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Data were collected on yield and important agronomic traits and analyzed by SAS software. The computed analysis of variance revealed significant variations among varieties for seed yield. The pooled over-year mean of varieties indicated that the Hundaol variety is high yielding, with a mean grain yield of 1201.52 kg ha-1, followed by the Chala variety (1199.41 kg ha-1) and the Burka (1151.25 ha-1) and therefore recommended for Bule hora areas and locations with similar agro-ecologies.
