Abstract:

This study explores the mismatch between training and employment in Benin, a problem exacerbated by the massification of higher education, the rapid evolution of the labor market and traditional teaching methods, using a mixed methodology combining exhaustive documentary analysis with field investigation, including questionnaires and interviews with various players in the education system and the professional world. The results of the study show that the massification of higher education is putting pressure on resources and infrastructures, impacting on the quality of teaching and revealing inequalities of access, while the rapid evolution of the job market demands new skills, particularly cross-disciplinary ones, making technical skills obsolete, leading to a training-employment crisis with high unemployment among young graduates due to inadequate curricula and a lack of practical skills, despite the relevance of the competency-based approach (CBA), which faces implementation challenges. The study also highlights the essential role of training arrangements and links between the university and the professional world, particularly through internships, as well as the importance of material conditions and quality assurance arrangements, concluding by underlining the need for far-reaching reform of the education system to improve the employability of graduates, by integrating practical skills, strengthening links with the professional world and investing in quality learning environments.
